October 28, 1956: Visited the Leidheisers in Elyria--then stopped a few minutes in Lorian to watch a freighter unloading iron ore. Had supper in the car. It was a lovely day but coming home was extra long. The twins were cross and both wanted mommie's attention. Martha and Mary were extra good helpers this morning.
October 28, 1957: Martha missed school. Lydia is feverish again.
October 28, 1972: Review Rom. 8
vs. 32 Since He did not even spare His own Son for us.....won't He also surely give us everything else? Praise the Lord! What can I say to such wonderful things? Psalm 98: 1 "Oh sing unto the Lord a new song, for He hath done marvellous things......" vs. 4 " Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth; make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise."
Thank you, Heavenly Father for Your presence in me!
October 28,1973: Col. 3: 15,16 "Let the peace of Christ....be in your hearts to decide things for you. And be thankful." Let Christ's Word live richly in you as you teach and warn one another, using every kind of wisdom. (Beck)
Amp. N.T. ".....as you teach and admonish and train one another in all insight and intelligence and wisdom in spiritual things, and sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs. Making melody to God with His grace in your hearts."
October 28, 1974: Ps. 102: 28 A Promise
"The children of Thy servants shall continue, and their seed shall be established before thee."
Ps. 103: 1 "Bless the Lord, O my soul and all that is within me, bless His holy name."
Praise you Jesus! Thank you Lord!
October 28, 1980: Matt. 11:25-30 Come to Jesus and Rest
vs. 27 "All things have been entrusted to Me by My Father...."
vs. 28 "Come to me, all of you who toil and carry burdens...."
October 28, 1982: Heb. 10: 23-25 Persevere
"Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess for he who promised is faithful."
October 28, 1983: Psalm 71 My Rock
vs. 2 "Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go...."
At the top of many pages in Mom's journals are little diagrams or pictures of how the sky looked on a particular morning. She has the names of the stars visible or the constellations visible followed by a landmark on the farm; above the maple tree in the east yard, above the barn, etc. As children, Mom and Dad took the time to point out various stars and constellations to us. As the seasons changed, the stars and constellations positions changed as well, thus the mention of landmarks on the farm.
Job 38: 31-33 "Can you fasten the chains of the Pleiades or loosen the belt of Orion? Can you bring out the constellations in their season and lead the Bear and her cubs? Do you know the laws of heaven? Can you impose its authority on earth?"

I remember going outside to the back steps during the night with Dad to see the Northern Lights. Now when I go outside at night, especially in the predawn darkness, I always look up at the stars to find familiar constellations. Viewing them makes me feel a connection to family members who live far away.
ReplyDeleteThe verses in Job put our busy lives in perspective. We aren't in charge of the seasons, the stars, or our own lives. God is the Master Planner.
Thank you Sarah for sharing mom's thoughts and special verses.
I like how she keeps her perspective godly. 'the day was good but the way home was long' because twins were cross- then she turned to scripture in her journal. A good example.
ReplyDeleteI like what Martha wrote - even though you all are spread out, you make time for each other.
I love that.
